In essence, Goldman has managed to do again what it has always done so well: embrace risks that its rivals feared to take and, for the most part, manage those risks better than its rivals dreamed possible.

Meanwhile the Indians, save Grady Sizemore, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Shin Soo Choo, are a walking cloud of regression. Ben Francisco, Kelly Shoppach, Ryan Garko, did I mention Ben Francisco? Jeremy Sowers, The Raffys, Jensen Lewis and on and on and on. Combine those with young promising players that never developed like Andy Marte and Josh Barfield and all of a sudden you have an organization that is failing from the ground up. And I was too busy making excuses by sniping at the Red Sox and Yankees to realize that even though the Indians had the correct fiscal policy, their organizational execution was failing miserably.

In the end it comes down to talent. You can talk all you want about intangibles, I just don’t know what that means. Talent makes winners, not intangibles. Can nice guys win? Sure, nice guys can win — if they’re nice guys with talent. Nice guys with a little talent finish fourth, and nice guys with no talent finish last.

The Cleveland Indians put up 14 runs in record-setting fashion.

“It was the most runs for the Indians since they beat New York 22-0 on Aug. 31, 2004, at the old Yankee Stadium.”

“Every Cleveland starter had a hit in the inning…Ryan Garko…fouled out to the catcher, but the next nine Indians hitters all reached base.”

“The 13 hits in the inning were a franchise record for a Yankees opponent.”

“the Tribe is the first visiting team to score nine or more runs in an inning twice in the same series since 1907.”

“the most runs a team has scored in the second inning…ever.”

“the game matched the most runs the Yankees have allowed in a home game.” The last team to score 22 against the Yankees at home? The Cleveland Indians on August 31, 2004, beating the Yankees 22-0 in the team’s worst defeat ever.

“The Yankees have played more than 16,500 games, or roughly 148,500 innings…Through it all, the Yankees had never allowed 14 runs in an inning.”

“Cleveland manager Eric Wedge picked up his 500th career victory.”

The Indians weren’t the only Cleveland team to beat their opponent by 18 points on Saturday - the Cavs beat the Pistons earlier in the day 102-84.
